Discovering Biblical Truth

I’m Learning. You’re Learning. Together, Let’s Follow Jesus and Discover Biblical Truth.

“Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is righteous and endowed with salvation, humble, and mounted on a donkey…” Zechariah 9:9, NASB

On Palm Sunday, we remember the moment Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. To many in the crowd, this seemed like the beginning of political liberation—a Messiah come to conquer Rome and restore Israel’s earthly power.

But Jesus came to bring a different kind of kingdom.

A Subversive Coronation

The people waved palm branches—a nationalistic symbol of deliverance—and shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” (John 12:13). The word Hosanna means “save us now.” But the salvation they wanted was immediate and earthly.

Jesus answered their cry for salvation not by raising an army, but by preparing to lay down His life.

His triumphal entry fulfilled ancient prophecy (Zech. 9:9), but in a way that shocked human expectation. The King came lowly, riding on a donkey—not a warhorse. He came not to reign but to redeem. Not to crush Rome but to crush the serpent’s head (Gen. 3:15).

The Path to the Cross

Palm Sunday begins a week that leads to the cross. The same voices that cried “Hosanna!” would soon shout “Crucify Him!”

Why? Because Jesus didn’t meet their expectations. He challenged their assumptions, exposed their sin, and refused to conform to their demands. He came not to be used, but to be followed.

Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem forces a question upon us:

Do we want a Savior who fits our desires, or will we follow the true King who saves us from our sin?

What Palm Sunday Means for Us

Palm Sunday is not just a historical event—it’s a personal invitation. Jesus is still King. But He doesn’t force His rule. He enters lowly. He invites, calls, and woos—by grace.

The cross stands in the background of His procession, reminding us that the crown comes through the cross. And only those who bow to Christ as Lord will know Him as Savior.

This Holy Week, don’t just wave palm branches. Lay down your heart. Repent. Believe. Follow Him.
He is the King who saves—by dying in our place and rising in victory.

“Hosanna!”—may it not be just our cry, but our confession.
